Belay device with assisted braking
The award-winning Mammut Smart belay device differs from conventional basket-type belay devices in that it makes belaying much safer by blocking the rope in the event of a sudden jerk (climber's fall). To unblock, push the device upwards with your thumb.
Recommended rope diameter:
- 9.2–10.0 mm: Optimal performance guaranteed
- 8.7–9.1 mm: Using thin ropes with Smart 2.0 requires increased vigilance and extensive practical experience in belaying techniques
- 10.1–10.5 mm: For older ropes and ropes with a larger diameter, more physical effort is required when taking in the rope
*Mammut recommends using the Smart 2.0 with a Smart HMS carabiner
