How to choose a backpack for one-day hikes?

When planning a day hike, not only the right clothing choices but also the right backpack play an important role. Whether it's a leisurely stroll in the woods or a challenging hike, the right backpack will keep you comfortable, light, and equipped with everything you need for your hike.

1. Appropriate backpack size
A one-day hike doesn't require a huge backpack. A backpack with a capacity of about 20–30 liters will be the most suitable, as it will be roomy enough to carry everything you need. It will be lighter, less bulky, and therefore less cumbersome during the hike. When choosing a backpack, check whether its back length and straps are appropriate for your height.

2. Take care of comfort
Regardless of whether you choose a smaller backpack, you will still feel its weight during your hike, so it is important to pay attention to the straps of the bag, so that they are comfortable, wider, padded and adjustable to distribute the weight more evenly on your shoulders and back. It is highly recommended that your daypack also have a comfortable hip belt, which helps transfer some of the load to your hips, as well as a chest belt, which will help relieve the weight from your shoulders.

3. Make sure it is waterproof
During hiking, different weather conditions can occur, so it is important to choose a backpack that is water-repellent or even water-resistant. Pay attention to whether the bag comes with a waterproof cover. If not, then consider purchasing one according to the volume of the backpack.

4. Pay attention to access points and pockets.
This is a matter of taste - most hiking backpacks have multiple pockets or compartments, which allows you to organize things and access the most necessary things as quickly and easily as possible. If you like to manage the contents of your backpack, choose a bag with many access points. But do not complicate the choice with too many different and complicated straps, zippers, pockets and clips, so that if the bag needs to be repaired or replaced after some time, it will be as easy as possible to do so.

5. Required accessories
When choosing a backpack, pay attention to whether it is possible to attach trekking poles if you go hiking with them. Various reflective elements and the ability to insert a hydration system can be very useful.

6. How to avoid being overworked
One of the most important principles when choosing a hiking bag is not to overload it. Although it may seem like you can fit a lot of different items in your bag, make sure you only bring what you really need. You shouldn't carry unnecessary items on a hike that will only add weight and make it difficult to move. Remember that lightness and functionality are key!

8. Additional tips
Always remember to bring water, some food for energy, a first aid kit, and a headlamp in case your walk or hike drags on.

Choosing the right backpack is the key to a pleasant and successful hike. Once you have chosen the right backpack that is comfortable, functional and meets your individual needs, your hike will become much more enjoyable. Don't miss the opportunity to carefully choose the backpack you will take with you on your adventure - it will be your faithful companion every step of the way!
