Mountaineering is an activity that alternates between high-intensity exertion and periods of rest. In cold conditions, this can make it difficult to maintain proper thermal balance. The Salewa Ortles RDS down hybrid jacket is a technical jacket that uses body mapping technology and is designed for varying levels of activity in cold weather.

It is constructed using body mapping techniques to provide sufficient warmth while preventing excessive heat build-up. In the most important areas – the front of the torso, back, and arms – it is insulated with 90/10, 750 cuin RDS certified duck down. In areas requiring less insulation and where the material is subjected to greater stress – for example, the shoulders – durable and breathable 100-gram Tirol Wool Responsive is used. The armpits and back tend to sweat the most, so here we use Polartec Alpha Direct Wool to quickly dissipate body heat and moisture. The outer fabric is made of water-repellent ripstop with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) finish to protect against moisture and retain warmth.

This is a Salewa Committed model that meets strict and third-party audited sustainability and social responsibility standards. The outer fabric is made from bluesign® approved nylon, and the down is certified by the Responsible Down Standard.
