Mountaineering shoes and clothing

Mountaineering clothing and footwear are specially designed for mountain environments, where you must always be prepared for unexpected weather changes.

The right clothing and footwear in the mountains can be a decisive factor in saving lives in unexpected situations.

Mountaineering clothing

Before buying clothing to go to the mountains, it is important to evaluate whether it meets the most important criteria to make your adventure in the mountains as safe and comfortable as possible. Good clothing for mountaineering and mountains meets the following criteria:

  • quick-drying materials that warm even when wet (synthetic materials, wool).
  • the materials do not contain cotton , as it dries very poorly,
  • light but durable materials that last a long time and do not disappoint in harsh conditions,
  • reliable brands that test their products in mountain conditions and carry out certifications in internationally recognized institutions,
  • modern technologies , such as Gore-Tex, Schoeller, Gore Windstopper, Vibram, Mammut Dry Down, etc.

The choice of clothing for mountains and mountaineering should be guided by the "onion" principle - you should dress in layers, which you put on or take off depending on the situation.

1st layer - quick-drying, thermoregulating 1st layer (thermal laundry)

2nd layer - warming middle layer (fleece jacket)

3rd layer - wind-blocking layer (softshell/windstopper wind jacket that blocks wind and light precipitation)

4th layer - warming upper layer (down jacket with moisture-resistant fabric or insulated synthetic filling jacket)

5th layer - hardshell "hard layer" with reliable protection against strong precipitation and wind. Membrane rain jacket and trousers that do not collect condensate inside (Goretex 3 layer, Goretex Pro, Mammyt Dry Technology Pro, etc. materials), with at least 20,000 mm water resistance.

All layers can be combined depending on the situation, creating a very practical and versatile kit for any adventure.

Mountaineering shoes

The most important features of mountaineering and mountain shoes:

  • safety - able to protect against injuries that can occur in uneven, rocky mountain terrain (hard sole, toe protection),
  • durable materials that do not fail in the harshest conditions,
  • weather - protects against temperature fluctuations and precipitation, as well as "breathes" (Gore-tex membrane),
  • compatibility with spikes - B1, B2 or A8 flex index sole, which is hard enough to prevent the spikes from falling off, which protects against slipping when walking on icy surfaces, as well as when climbing icy or snowy rocks and mountain peaks,
  • mountaineering boots have been certified according to internationally recognized standards for the suitability of shoes for use on the island (specified temperature).
