In order for the rope to last a long time and be able to climb with it safely, it needs a little care.
1. Do not climb the rope !
Nothing (except climbing itself) damages a rope as much as stepping on it. This is also a very gross violation of climbing ethics! Climbing on the rope can cause both obvious mechanical damage and invisible damage by driving dust and sand into the inner layer of the rope.
2. Use a rope mat .
Sand, mud, small stones cause not only invisible damage to the rope, but also damage the rest of the safety equipment. A gritty rope is like sandpaper, rubbing out carabiners, belay devices and fixed safety equipment.
3. If the rope remains dirty, it must be washed.
Even if the rope isn't obviously muddy or sandy, heavy use wears aluminum oxide particles off the carabiners, which not only makes the rope fluffy, but also smears your hands when belaying. When washing, these fine abrasive particles are washed away and thus the life of the rope is extended. Wash the rope in lukewarm water with detergent intended for ropes. If the capacity of the washing machine allows, wash it in cold water in a long cycle. Allow it to dry at room temperature in a dark place. Do not dry the rope on radiators or in open sunlight.
4. Store the rope in a dry, dark place.
Do not store rope near corrosive substances, such as in a garage near fuel or corrosive tanks and car batteries.
Have a safe climb!
